How to Reset a Skoda Key
I just received a message from my infotainment device to say the key battery is low and must be replaced. It's not the first time, and the when I last visited a dealer they just replaced it at no cost, took 2 minutes and said it would be working again.
Switch ignition ON and mechanically lock the car. Press the unlock button five times at intervals of one second on the remote control. A short horn tone will sound.
EEPROM Method
It may take a while for a professional car locksmith to reprogram your keys if it ceases to function. In many cases, this involves reading the EEPROM to find the unique code for the particular vehicle. This is a risky procedure since there's a great chance that the information stored in the module will be corrupted. It's best to delegate this task to a skilled locksmith.
An EEPROM (non-volatile) memory is utilized in a broad range of electronic devices including car keys. It stores data, including the unique encryption keys or authentication codes that are recognised by your car when you use the key to lock or start it. These codes are crucial because they inform your car that you are the owner of the key and that you have permission to drive.
If replacement skoda key fob is damaged the keys won't work. The problem is usually caused by using the incorrect key, or accidentally hitting one of the buttons. You may try to reset it by using a specific tool, however, this method isn't 100% guaranteed to work. It's better to use an expert with extensive knowledge of programming automotive keys.
To reset your EEPROM you must remove the Kessy Module from the vehicle. This is the module just above the accelerator pedal on the left side the car. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the single plastic clip that holds it in the position. Then, you can disconnect the two connectors to electrical power and remove it from the vehicle. You can then access the EEPROM using a SOIC8 or micro pincers connected to the programmer. Once you have the data you can save it to a file and then write it back to the EEPROM.
You can make use of a program like PonyProg to read the EEPROM data. Click on Read Device. The EEPROM dump appears as an array of hexadecimal characters. There are three notable hex values: the KEY_CODE, the key_count, and the V_ARG_ENABLED. To "virginize", the chip, change all other hex values starting with 00. Once you have done this you can flash the chip to restore its functionality.
Ignition Method

This method involves using a second working key to turn on the car's system. It isn't applicable to all vehicles but it is possible to reset the key fob if it isn't working properly or the battery is dead. It will work if you have pressed the buttons hard (people often try to push the unlock button repeatedly).
To apply this method switch on the ignition and leave it on. Next you must lock the door of the driver of the car with a second key. Next, set the key fob in the lock position and point it towards the transmitter on the front side of the car above mirror. Hold the unlock button for several seconds. The horn will sound and the key fob should begin working.
If the skoda keys fail to work, it could be that the transmitter inside has been damaged or is not in sync with the vehicle's theft deterrent system. If this is the case, it will need to be reprogrammed. A technician or automotive locksmith can assist you with this.
If the key fob does not work after reprogramming it could be that the car "forgot" the key when the car wasn't used for 6 months. You can try the resync method described in the user guide Remove the cap and lock on the driver's side door and unlock the car with the key. The key should be able to sync again. key, if not, you'll need to visit the dealers. This usually happens with keys that have lost their function and takes less than 2 minutes to complete.
Keyless Entry Method
The latest generation of keyless systems, that are used in the latest OCTAVIA cars as well as electric ENYAQ-iV vehicles, comes with an innovative security feature that can prevent thieves from "signal extension". The car transmits a signal and the key must respond within a certain time. If the key does not respond, the car cannot be unlocked and starts to ring its alarms.
The car can also tell that the key is close with a sensor located in the door handle. It works by sending an alert to the key's internal coil, which then responds by returning a signal to the sensor. If the sensor detects it then the car will open itself and switch on the interior lights automatically, if it is set to do this.
Even older keyless entry systems have a backup. If the remote doesn't work it is still possible to manually open the driver's door. This can be done by sliding the blade or, in certain models, by pressing a button on the pocket. This is especially helpful if you've lost your key or the battery has died.
Remote Control Method
If you've recently purchased a new remote control, but it doesn't function in your car, it's likely that the seller did not program it to work with your vehicle. It could also be that the battery terminals are loose (look for this, they may appear a bit loose to the touch and may be soldered in the wrong place) and carefully soldering them back in place should bring your key fob back to full working order. If you're not sure about this type repair, you should consult an expert auto elect technician.
Switch off the ignition and then lock the vehicle from the inside using a second key that is not matched (this resets the memory position 1). Enter channel "01". (Can be channel "21" on some Audi models.) Insert the new keyfob into the driver's door and press the unlock button twice in less than 5 seconds.
Repeat this coding process for up to 4 additional remotes - make sure to switch off the ignition before programming each remote. You should hear a sound every time you successfully program the remote.
